Job Role

Position Summary

The Director, Snowsports is responsible for the overall operation and management of the Snow School at Red Mountain Resort. This position oversees ski and snowboard lesson program coordination, creation and organization, in addition to the marketing and selling of these products. The Director is responsible for the management of all supervisors and front line staff – including the Assistant Director, Lead Hands, Front Desk and Instructors. The Director is also responsible for the profitability of operations and overseeing the budgeting and expenses of snow school.

Major Responsbilities

  • Staff Management
    • Plan and oversee recruitment and training of new staff.
    • Plan and provide training for returning staff.
    • Work closely with the Assistant Director to oversee Lead Hand, Front Desk, and Instructor management.
    • Carry out disciplinary steps, ending in termination if required.
    • Manage staff schedules through ADP and MtnOS.
    • Manage all payroll for the Snow School team.
    • Oversee staff evaluations done by management team and provide ongoing coaching and training for staff development.
    • Enforce all Red Staff policies and procedures to ensure safe and fair operations.
  • Product Management
    • Organize and coordinate existing products for maximum efficiency and smooth operation.
    • Plan and create new products, and revise existing products to stay ahead of the market.
    • Understand the programming of Paradocs MtnOS reservation software.
  • Budgeting and Finance
    • Follow existing budget and amend to reflect future needs.
    • Track department revenues and expenses.
    • Work closely with the GM to communicate Snow School finances weekly/monthly.
  • Administration
    • Update and enhance staff training manuals each year.
    • Set Assistant Director duties and oversee as School Coordinator.
  • Marketing
    • Work closely with Marketing to develop a strategic marketing plan to drive products
    • Work with Events and the Social Media Coordinator to promote products.
  • Guest Service
    • Provide the highest level of guest service to all guests and staff.
  • Work closely with other departments to assist in smooth resort operations.

Key knowledge, skills and abilities

Education

  • High school diploma
  • Ski Resort or Business Management Diploma an asset
  • CSIA/CASI Level 3 or equivalent. (lower certification will be considered with experience)
  • CSIA/CASI/PSIC course conductor is considered an asset.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years in management role
  • Snow School experience – in a supervisor and instructor role.
  • Hospitality & reservations, sales and marketing experience an asset.

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient computer skills – Excel, reservation software, typing, etc.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Energetic, confident and motivated in dealing with both staff and guests.
  • Adept at conflict resolution and problem solving in both business and staff management situations.
  • Extremely organized and capable of multitasking.
  • Has ability to lead by example and encourages staff input and creativity to foster an inclusive and growth-minded atmosphere.
  • A result driven mindset with an understanding of business and financial elements
