Bio: Glencoe, being an easy hitch- hike from Glasgow, was where I started my life-time of mountaineering. When I couldn’t get to the mountains I would practise rock climbing on the local railway siding! In the late 1970’s, in a procession of ‘beat up dodgy motors’, at least two of which didn’t make it back!, I ended up in Chamonix, camping in a field with many ‘soon to be’ legends. Climbing loads of classic routes in the Mont Blanc range, working as an aspirant guide in the summer and on ski patrol in Scotland and New Zealand during the winter I completed my guiding qualifications in 1988. During this period there was a developing interest in affordable ‘off piste skiing’, it was an opportunity to guide groups of holiday skiers onto the high glaciers and into the wild back-country terrain of the Chamonix valley. During the summer I like to spend time sharing my enthusiasm for the mountains on climbs and adventures throughout the Alps. Most winters I teach on various mountain safety training courses, lead ski mountaineering trips, train for skimo racing and also find time to go skiing with my friends! So; • whether it’s your first ski touring trip or you are training for a famous race such as the PDG, • if you want to undertake a classic ski tour, e.g. The Haute Route or explore exciting terrain off the beaten track, • discover stashes of un tracked powder or venture ‘off piste’ for the first time • learn techniques required for alpine mountaineering on some of the more out of the way locations in the Alps, • discover some of the classic alpine rock routes, I am keen to hear from you.
