James Thacker
BMG Full Guide
Bio: James Thacker is a IFMGA Guide and Mountaineering Instructor (WMCI) based in Chamonix, France and Kingussie, Scotland. Equally passionate about alpine mountaineering in the summer months and skiing in the winter; James' guiding activities are now split between 'Mountain Assurance Ltd' and 'Off Piste Performance Ltd' respectively. Alongside practice at the sharp end James also provides technical advice, subject matter expertise and consultancy in mountaineering disciplines and the management of adventure activities. He is a Senior Consultant with Adventure Activity Associates Ltd. For sixteen years James was actively involved with Mountain Rescue in the Peak District as a member of Derby MRT and Edale MRT. With extended casualty care experience James has also developed an interest in altitude medicine and the management of the trauma in the mountains. In recent years James has also contributed to the wider agenda of mountain safety via the British Mountaineering Council (BMC), delivering the popular 'Winter Lecture' series with his colleague and fellow IFMGA Mountain Guide Neil Johnson. James is also a Trustee of the Chris Walker Memorial Trust (CWMT) which strives to fund and deliver, in conjunction with the Scottish Avalanche Information Service (SAIS), continuing professional development training with a particular emphasis on the Scottish Snowpack. Within the British Association of Mountain Guides (BMG), James held the post of Website Coordinator for six years, was responsible for the BMG's Strategic Plan and is now lead for the BMG Governance Group. James is also a Forecaster for the Scottish Avalanche Information Service (SAIS).
