Bio: Matt is a full time ski and climbing guide with a wealth of experience gained over 25 years. He has held the IFMGA guiding certificate since the year 2004. He has an impressive knowledge of the western Alps and whether on snow, ice or rock always finds the best opportunities on the day. Matt has many articles and features in the mainstream press and also works as a TV safety consultant. He is an accomplished climber and a solo/ speed climbing specialist with many bold achievements under his belt. Matt joined the team at Mountain Tracks in 2006 and divides his time between the Alps and the UK. “For me it all started on the gritstone edges of my home county Derbyshire. By mid–teens I was hooked on climbing and the mountains, many adventures and expeditions followed including notable new routes on Greenland’s big walls. In the 90’s I spent many years leading mountaineering expeditions in the greater ranges and summited on many high peaks of the Himalayas and the Andes. In the winter of 2008 I completed a winter ascent of the north face of the Eiger and later the north face of the Matterhorn and Grand Jorasses. My love of climbing is undiminished and recently ticked the 'magic grade': 8a! I am strictly a backcountry skier so my favourite resorts are the ones which provide a gateway onto the wild side of the mountain. Saas Fee, Zermatt and Zinal are favourites also the big Italian Monte Rosa area is hard to beat: 2500m descents are possible here in a spectacular landscape! Another firm favourite is the skiing in Gulmarg in Kashmir, which is certainly a unique travel experience. This area has some of the best terrain and biggest vertical on the planet. For hut touring: well, our Elbrus expedition is a personal favourite of mine. Russia is a culturally very interesting country and the Caucuses are on a grand scale. Skiing in the remote greater-ranges is truly memorable and has to be experienced." My vision for the future, is simply to continue to provide the highest quality mountain adventure available. I look forward to hearing from you to discuss your next adventure.
