Bio: Majka Burhardt has a passion for creating unusual connections. As an author, professional climber, filmmaker, and entrepreneur, Majka has spent over two decades exploring the globe—usually by hand and foot—and her stories of challenge, humanity, and the fine line between extreme and acceptable risk inspire and challenge audiences around the world. Majka has been guiding since 1999 and has guided ascents from Ethiopia to Nepal, Bolivia to Alaska. She currently specializes in multi-pitch rock climbing and technical ice climbing. Majka is the author of Coffee Story: Ethiopia and Vertical Ethiopia: Climbing Toward Possibility in the Horn of Africa, Executive Producer of Waypoint Namibia and founder of Legado, an initiative which inspired the 2016 film, Namuli, about her climbing and conservation research expedition to Mozambique. She is also the founder/director at Additive Adventure, an organization that goes beyond exploration to build cultural and environmental connections that catalyze a larger conversation around personal and collective impact to achieve profound results.
