Bio: Wills Young, co-founder of Synergy Climbing And Ninja, a premiere climbing and ninja facility in the heart of Chattanooga's Southside, previously headed up all instruction at High Point Climbing School, overseeing all the climbing instruction, coaching and outdoor guiding on behalf of High Point gym for five years. Looking for a way out of that corporate maze, he is now operating Synergy Climbing, a local coaching and climbing guide business in Chattanooga, as well as managing the gym and overseeing the area's most successful youth climbing team. As coach and instructor to The Synergy Climbing Team, Wills has coached regional, divisional, national, and world champions. He can teach movement skills to elite level athletes and knows the local areas better than any other guide. Born in California, but raised in England, Wills learned to climb in the Peak District, holding leader falls with a waist belay long before climbing gyms existed. He honed his leading skills through traditional climbing on local gritstone edges, the mountain crags of Scotland, and the dicey sea cliffs of Wales. Having started out in pre-sport-climbing era (before 1985), he climbed half a dozen years before he ever clipped a bolt. A move back to his native California in the 1990s saw Wills develop hundreds of boulder problems at climbing areas in Southern California, and achieve an on-sight climbing level of 5.13b. After a spell behind the desk as an editor at Climbing magazine in Colorado, he moved to Bishop, California, with wife-to-be Lisa Rands, where he authored one of the country’s most popular climbing guidebooks, Bishop Bouldering, climbing nearly all of the book’s 2000 boulder problems in the process and achieving a bouldering level of v13. In his role as coach, Wills pushed Lisa to improve her technique and propelled her to wins at international competitions including World Cup Bouldering competitions, and trained with her through countless gym sessions and thousands of days out on the rock. Wills Young brings a wealth of skill, knowledge, and experience and loves to pass this along to his clients.
